Ok, I sold my old Panasonic CF-37 Toughbook on eBay. It's a hugely solid notebook. I LOVE it and I would have kept it except for one thing: the screen resolution is only 800x600. That's a nightmare for any kind of graphics processing.
Now I'm somewhat in the market for a new laptop, although there are taxes and the China trip coming up to think about. Ideally, I'd like something that could run Final Fantasy Online, even if it's low-res. It would only be for doing routine low-stress stuff like checking my plants and the auction house or crafting. ^_^
That means it ought to have an ATI Radeon or Nvidia GeForce type video chip and good processing power. Would be nice for it to have built-in wireless LAN capability--I expect most new laptops do these days--but I have a PC card adapter so this isn't essential. It should have a DVD-ROM drive and CD-RW. Of course, the screen resolution ought to be BIGGER than 800x600.
The Averatec 2155-EH1 is a possibility but it's got an AMD Turion processor and I'd prefer a Celeron platform. I also read somewhere that it couldn't run World of Warcraft at all and that its built-in wireless didn't work either. However, since FFXI was released... umm... three years ago now? there is a chance that it will run acceptably.
Something to consider...maybe later in the year. :P
